HANIWAI participated in the International Women's Day Event 2025.
On March 8, 2025, HANIWAI proudly joined women and allies across Port Moresby in celebrating International Women's Day under the global theme "Accelerate Action." The event included a march through the streets of the city, followed by a community gathering at Ela Beach, where women leaders, NGOs, and civil society groups gathered to raise their voices for gender equality and inclusion. The march was organized by BPW Port Moresby and supported by government officials, students, and advocacy groups from around the country.
HANIWAI participated as part of its continued commitment to empowering indigenous women and promoting intersectional development that centers women's voices in both cultural and environmental action. Our members walked in solidarity, carrying banners that reflected HANIWAI’s mission of preservation, protection, and transformation. Several of our representatives also contributed to public discussions about the challenges faced by women in rural communities.
This year’s IWD highlighted not just celebration, but also advocacy — with calls for better support for women in leadership, healthcare, education, and land rights. It was a powerful moment of unity and visibility, and HANIWAI is honored to have stood among organizations driving change for women in Papua New Guinea.
